5 reasons to consider pregnancy yoga!

5 reasons why you should consider pregnancy yoga!

  1. Relief From Common Pregnancy Symptoms. Practicing yoga techniques in pregnancy can help you if you’re suffering from common pregnancy discomforts such as lower back pain, nausea, insomnia, headaches, shortness of breath, and carpal tunnel syndrome. By stretching your muscles, you help your blood to circulate around your body, and deep breathing can help to increase the oxygen levels to your muscles and to your baby. When your circulation is improved swelling is decreased and your immunity is also enhanced.
  1. Calms your nervous system. Focusing on your breath and using deep breathing techniques stimulates your parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for relaxation. When your body is relaxed your digestive system works better and you sleep better. Consciously breathing helps to regulate your heart rate and blood pressure.

  1. Connecting with your baby. Attending a pregnancy yoga class once a week is a great opportunity to take the time out of your busy work and home life to bond with your growing bump. As your pregnancy progresses, your body’s different responses to yoga poses will be a reminder of other physical changes happening in your body.

  1. Building a social network. Being a new Mum can be lonely, attending a pregnancy yoga class can help to build your network with other expectant Mums. You’re all in the same boat. The class provides a safe supportive environment to discuss pregnancy concerns and worries. Sharing your pregnancy journey with likeminded mums to be can really help to ease your anxiety about motherhood.

  1. Pelvic Floor. You will learn to work your pelvic floor. Your pelvic floor is the hammock of muscle that supports your internal organs, as well as your baby during pregnancy. During pregnancy it is especially important to exercise your pelvic floor as it has to support the increased weight of carrying your baby. Your pelvic floor can weaken during pregnancy and childbirth so it is very important to work the pelvic floor before and after childbirth in order to avoid urinary incontinence.
